CorrecTek Granted Patent for Methods in Storing Patient Health Information in Electronic Medical Records
PADUCAH, KY- CorrecTek, Inc., a national leader in developing and implementing correctional specific electronic medical records (EMR), was granted a method and systems patent by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for electronically maintaining medical records and other patient demographic information in an EMR.
“This is truly a pivotal moment for us” said Dan Jarrett, President, CorrecTek, Inc. “No other software company in the correctional space has been awarded such a patent. We have worked tirelessly for the past several years to earn this patent and now our customers are benefiting from it.”
The patent, which was originally filed in July 2002 by Ulrich Medical Concepts, was granted after an eight year rigorous review process by the USPTO. Ulrich Medical Concepts received the Notice of Allowance from the USPTO in December of 2009 and the patent was officially granted on May 11, 2010.
In 2004, Ulrich Medical Concepts created CorrecTek, Inc. to deliver EMR to the jail and prison healthcare market. CorrecTek allows correctional medical facilities the ability to reduce their liability against healthcare related law suits, as well as reduce the overall costs of healthcare delivered at their facilities. CorrecTek is nationally recognized as a leader in the correctional EMR market and currently serves correctional facilities across the United States.
Jarrett said that CorrecTek’s patented functionality affirms CorrecTek’s position as the national leader in correctional EMR technology and ensures their success as a “cutting edge software company” well into the future.
“(The patent) grants CorrecTek intellectual property for the core functionality of EMR systems – technology from which our customers have benefitted for some time”, Jarrett said. “It further provides security that the EMR they have chosen is protected and recognized by the Federal Government.”
